Old Navy celebrates Ames grand opening Saturday

A major clothing retailer officially opened its doors in Ames earlier this week and is celebrating its grand opening Saturday.

Old Navy, located at 1419 Buckeye Avenue, opened for its first official day of business on Wednesday.

Store General Manager Nikki Nelson told StoryCounty.News that the first 100 people to enter the store Saturday morning will receive a free tote bag with an Old Navy coupon inside.

The store, which is part of the developing “Duff Plaza”, was originally confirmed by a company spokesperson in summer of 2022. Nelson added this week that the south Ames location was a huge selling point to the mega-brand. “The plaza center here is up-and-coming,” she said. “Old Navy has been reaching out to some smaller communities. This is the first Old Navy in Ames, and so we are super excited for that.”

Old Navy is owned by the international retailer company Gap, Inc. The company previously held a location for one of its Gap Factory Stores at the North Grand Mall in Ames, before closing permanently.

Old Navy is known for its wide variety of everyday clothing, including jeans and general attire for men, women, and children. “We sell clothes to all ages,” Nelson noted. “[Old Navy] is really an all-inclusive brand.”

Forbes ranked Gap, Inc. fifth among “specialty retailers” in a list of the World’s Most Admired in 2013.

According to Nelson, the Ames store is close to being fully staffed. However, some positions are still available. To apply for a job at Old Navy, visit the store in-person or apply online at www.gapinc.com/careers.
