Rally House Ames has officially turned the calendar to a new year for the first time in the store’s young life, following the location’s grand opening in 2023.
Rally House is a specialty sports store that prides itself in its ability to offer an expansive selection of apparel, gifts, home décor, and other types of merchandise representing local NCAA, NFL, NBA, MLB, NFL and MLS teams. One of the main missions at Rally House is to help fans across the country express team spirit and hometown pride with high-quality apparel, accessories, and gifts.
While Rally House originated in Kansas City in the late 1980s, District Manager and Recruiter Jeremy Treichel sees the company expanding now more than ever. “We’re going through explosive growth right now,” he stated. “We’re opening about 50 stores per year.”
As the company continues to extend its reach across the Midwest, Ames was a natural choice for a new store. “We’re trying to grow organically and enter more college towns,” Treichel explained. “Ames is a great college town. It’s quintessential. If you envision a storybook college town, this would be the one place where it is what you imagine. The whole community is great and everything kind of revolves around the college.”
Much like each person, Treichel noted that no two Rally House stores are identical. They each carry merchandise customized and tailored to the specific collegiate and professional teams in that area. “We try to cater to each community that we’re in, paying attention to what the customer is asking for,” he said.
“Other retailers will try to have a little bit of every single team you can imagine in every single sport, whereas we just bring in the more local ones and give you a better selection of that product.”
“For example, in Ames, we noticed that the competitors didn’t have a great selection for kids. But that selection is substantial in our store.”
According to Treichel, Rally House stands out from other retailers by offering an impressive array of local apparel and gifts. The store’s goal? “We want to offer something that someone else can’t,” Treichel reiterated. “Since we opened the [Ames] store, we’ve tracked when someone asks for something that we don’t have. Then, we try to get it.”
According to its website, customers at the new Rally House store in Ames will find various well-known brand names, including popular options from New Era, ’47, Mitchell & Ness, Nike, and others. Furthermore, there are jerseys, hats, and memorabilia for many area-favorite college and pro teams, such as the Iowa State Cyclones, Iowa Hawkeyes, Northern Iowa Panthers, Drake Bulldogs, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite the variety of team selection, the store still generates the most buzz with its Cyclone apparel. “Right now, 92% of sales are Iowa State University,” Treichel added. “If you’re looking for something Iowa State, and we don’t have it, it’s coming.”
The company claims one of the biggest pluses with the new Ames store is its prime location. “We love the Duff Plaza redevelopment,” said CEO Aaron Liebert. “The shopping center is located just a mile from the football stadium and will be a great stop on the way to the tailgate.”
