An Iowa State University student and popular TikTok creator has been charged with assault after allegedly stabbing two people with a butter knife.
According to a criminal complaint, 21-year-old Corey Xavier Barnes was arrested for Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, in connection with the incident. However, court documents indicate that Barnes has since been charged with the following:
- Willful Injury – Causing Bodily Injury, a class “D” felony (two counts)
- First-Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor
The complaint, filed by an Ames Police Department officer, states that authorities responded to an apartment unit located at 2320 Lincoln Way at approximately 4:30 a.m. on October 6 following a 911 call. Officers reportedly made contact with Barnes, who admitted to being involved in a “physical altercation with people” at the apartment.
Barnes allegedly told officers that the incident occurred after people in the apartment woke him up from sleep and refused to leave. Per the police report, “things became confrontational and escalated quickly.”
According to the complaint, Barnes “admitted to pulling out a butter knife from the drawer in the kitchen to use against them.” Barnes allegedly stabbed two people in the apartment. One of the victims, a female, was stabbed “on the top of [her] head.” Another victim, a male, is said to have suffered “multiple stabs to his neck and face.”
Barnes is a junior at ISU, according to the university’s student directory, and is listed as the president of Eventure, a student organization at the school. Barnes is also a well-known TikTok creator, with over 121,000 followers on the popular social media platform.
Barnes was taken into custody and transported to Ames PD, before later being taken to the Story County Jail in Nevada.
At least one of the victims was transported to a nearby hospital following the assault, per the complaint.
Court documents indicate that Barnes later posted a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled for an arraignment on October 28 at 1:30 p.m.
