Local officials quickly responded to a house fire that occurred on 12th Street in Ames on Tuesday, saving the life of a dog that was home at the time of the incident.
According to a press release, the Ames Fire Department was notified of the blaze inside a home at 417 12th Street at approximately 7:14 a.m. Tuesday. A neighbor had spotted flames through the front window of the structure and called 911.
On arrival, responders entered the house and rescued a dog that had been trapped inside. Officials then extinguished the fire, which reportedly started in the living room and did not spread to any other areas of the home.
The release did not indicate the structure’s estimated repair cost but did state that smoke from the fire damaged other areas of the home.
No humans were home at the time of the blaze. The Ames FD determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, and no one was hurt during the incident.
The fire comes amid National Fire Prevention Week, which is being observed October 3-9, 2021. The Ames FD is reminding residents to check smoke detectors monthly in order to ensure early detection of fire. In addition, a fire escape plan should be well-rehearsed for all residents of a home.
