Police: Gunshots strike south Ames townhouse

Authorities in Ames are investigating gunfire that struck a home on the south side of town Wednesday evening.

According to an Ames Police Department press release, the incident was initially reported at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday after someone heard the sound of gunshots.

Officers responded to the 3100 block of Quartz Avenue in south Ames where they located a townhouse that had been shot multiple times. Investigators canvassed the area and collected evidence from the property. The Story County Sheriff’s Office assisted Ames PD at the scene.

The resident of the townhouse was not home at the time of the shooting, per the release. No one was injured as a result of the gunfire.

According to the release, Ames PD does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. The incident remains under investigation.
