A west Ames home caught fire Monday afternoon due to the spread of a nearby grass blaze, according to officials.
According to a City of Ames press release, the Ames Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire at approximately 1:15 p.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the flames had spread to a nearby home at 5428 Norris Street.
The fire was eventually extinguished, and first responders treated an occupant of the home who had suffered burns and smoke inhalation. The occupant was transported by ambulance to Mary Greeley Medical Center.
Fire crews remained on-scene for several hours after the blaze was put out due to windy conditions.
Family members who were displaced as a result of the fire are being assisted by Red Cross, per the release.
