BREAKING: Arrest warrants issued following Ames armed robbery investigation

Two arrest warrants have been issued for the suspects allegedly behind an armed robbery that took place in an Ames hotel parking lot this month.

According to Ames Police Commander Jason Tuttle, 20-year-old Cornelius S. Burton and 25-year-old Fabian Burse are both wanted by authorities after a robbery, performed at gunpoint, occurred in the local Days Inn parking lot, located at 229 S. Duff Avenue, back in early July.

Authorities initially responded to the incident at approximately 5:19 a.m. on July 10. The victims at the scene reported that they had been approached by two suspects, one of which demanded money while also displaying a firearm. After assaulting one of the victims, the suspects reportedly fled on foot. The assaulted victim was treated at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

The ensuing investigation, which is now approaching the two-week mark, led the Ames Police Department to issue the arrest warrants Tuesday morning. Both Burton and Burse are currently at-large and wanted for First Degree Robbery, a class “B” felony, and Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor.

The Ames PD is continuing its investigation into the crime and is urging the public to assist by extending any tips regarding the incident to investigators. Anyone with information can call the Ames PD at 515-239-5133 or the anonymous tip line at 515-239-5533. Anyone with specific knowledge into the whereabouts of either Burton or Burse are urged to contact Ames Police Detective Brook McPherson directly at 515-239-5313.
