DEVEOPING STORY: Armed burglars wanted after west Ames home invasions

Authorities in Ames are looking for three suspects after a pair of home invasions Wednesday evening in west Ames.

According to Ames Police Sergeant Amber Christian, two different apartments located at 900 Pinon Drive were broken into shortly after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Video footage from a Ring doorbell shows three suspects breaking down a door before making entry into a home, which was occupied at the time of the incident. “One [female] was close to the door when they came in,” Christian told StoryCounty.News. “That individual did not retaliate or do anything other than get very scared.”

The second apartment was reportedly occupied by one male, one female, and one child.

Christian says the suspects, who remain unidentified, were described as “three black males.”

One of the males reportedly displayed a handgun during the burglaries. No shots were fired during the incident, and no injuries were reported, according to Christian. It is currently unknown what items were stolen by the suspects.

Although Christian noted that the Ames Police Department has received an uptick in reported vehicle burglaries in recent weeks, she noted that home invasions like these are “rare” in the Ames community.

Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals depicted in the Ring doorbell footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ames PD at 515-232-5133.

One of the suspects is CLEARLY a young adult white male.

Pause the footage in the first 5 seconds to get a look. He’s in a wig.

The other two, (one darker male, and in my opinion – the second could be male or a female) look younger than “wigged” suspect.

People, whatever age, that violate other’s security, do irreversible damage and need be top priority when it comes to identification.

I would edit this story or take it down and rewrite it.

Also – being black is not a crime. FACTS. Three black males shopping is HARDLY anything to relate to this story, or these events.

It takes a special individual to break, enter, and terrorize for a little bit of money.

With proper investigating they can be identified. It saddens me reading the summary of events as well as this ignorant comment. No offense to you, but WATCH THE RING FOOTAGE BEFORE COMMENTING.

Ok, first 2 seconds. I can’t paste the screen shot on here, but in the first second or two you will CLEARLY SEE A WHITE MALE.
