Firefighters in Ames responded to and extinguished a blaze at a west Ames duplex late Wednesday night.
According to a press release, the Ames Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at approximately 10:25 p.m. Wednesday. Officials arrived at the 4015 Quebec Street property to find smoke emitting from the home and visible flames coming through a basement window.
Upon entry, firefighters confirmed all residents on both sides of the duplex had made it out safely. The fire, which started in and was contained to the basement, was extinguished a short time later, notes the release.
Investigators confirmed that one individual was at the residence at the time of the fire and escaped safely because of working smoke detectors in the home.
The entire unit reportedly suffered smoke damage due to the incident, per the release. No injuries were reported.

The Ames Fire Department is reminding all residents to check their smoke detectors each month to ensure proper warning in the event of a fire.
