Police in Ames have launched an investigation following the discovery of a dead body in a parking lot near downtown Ames.
According to a press release, at 8:26 a.m. Sunday, the Ames Police Department received a report of a male laying in an alley in the 700 block of Burnett Avenue. Authorities responded to the area and located a deceased male in a parking lot near the alley.
Police say the deceased man was 53 years old. The body was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. His name is being withheld until family is notified.
The release states that “investigators canvassed the area, processed the scene, and conducted follow-up interviews.”
There is not believed to be an ongoing threat to the public, according to Ames PD.
