KFC, historically known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, has officially announced the opening of a new store in north Ames.
According to a company spokesperson, the world-famous fast-food chain will open a location near the North Grand Mall in the coming months. The restaurant will occupy a property previously home to a US Bank branch.
In years past, KFC operated at 509 Lincoln Way in Ames. The property later went through a demolition process, and Starbucks eventually built on the site.
The spokesperson told StoryCounty.News that site construction on the new KFC property is set to begin in September. The company expects the store, which will employ approximately 20 people, to open in January.
KFC will be located at 2615 Grand Avenue, just south of Walgreens and east of the North Grand Mall. The store is expected to be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., per the spokesperson.
