An Ames man has died after sustaining critical injuries in a domestic stabbing that occurred Saturday morning.
According to an Ames Police Department press release, 39-year-old Maccarone D. Declements of Ames has died because of the incident. Declements had been airlifted to a Des Moines Hospital prior to his death.
On Saturday morning, just before 3:00 a.m., Ames PD officers were summoned to a home at 510 Seventh Street for a reported stabbing. Authorities arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering from serious injuries to his upper torso.
Declements and the suspect, who was also the one that called 911, were both located inside the residence. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Robert A. Lyon of Ames, cooperated with responding officers, who placed him under arrest.

Ames Police Commander Dan Walter told StoryCounty.News that the assault was preceded by a verbal disagreement. A knife was reportedly recovered at the scene by investigators.
Lyon now faces a charge of First-Degree Murder, a class “A” felony, per the release. Lyon was initially hit with a charge of Attempted Murder, a class “B” felony, but the charge was upgraded upon Declements’ death.
Online records indicate that Lyon is being held without bond at the Story County Jail in Nevada.
