BREAKING NEWS: Ames Police investigating Memorial Day shooting, ‘attempted murder’

An individual was shot in south Ames early Monday morning, and officials are quickly calling it an “attempted murder”.

According to a press release, the Ames Police Department responded to Mary Greeley Medical Center at approximately 12:45 a.m. for a victim who had be admitted for a gunshot wound. Further investigation led responding officers to determine that the shooting occurred just a few minutes prior in the 600 block of South 17th Street.

The victim’s condition is currently unknown, per the release. Police are not releasing the victim’s name until family can be notified.

The release stated that as detectives continue to investigation the incident, police don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

The alleged attempted murder comes just three weeks after a man was shot and killed outside of a north Ames apartment building during the early morning hours on a Monday. There has been no suspect apprehended or identified in the case.

A spokesman for Ames PD was not immediately available for comment.
