UPDATE: Both victims in Ames hotel shooting expected to survive

Two people were left hospitalized Saturday after being shot at a hotel in east Ames.

According to an Ames Police Department press release, authorities responded to Quality Inn & Suites at 2601 East 13th Street at 11:26 a.m. Saturday on a call of a shooting. Officers were able to locate two victims that had been shot.

The press release stated that Ames PD currently has one person in custody. At 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Sergeant Amber Christian told StoryCounty.News that no criminal charges had yet been filed in response to the incident.

Both victims were transported to “area hospitals”, per the release. Their status is currently unknown.

Ames PD continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact Ames PD by calling 515-239-5133. Anonymous tips can be made by calling 515-239-5533.

(UPDATE- Saturday 6:58 p.m.) According to an Ames PD spokesperson, one person has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

(UPDATE- Saturday 7:42 p.m.) According to an updated press release, authorities have charged 27-year-old Anthony G. Garner, Jr. of Pine Hill, Alabama with the following crimes:

• Attempted Murder, a class “B” felony

• Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, a class “C” felony

• Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, a class “D” felony

• Going Armed with Intent, a class “D” felony

• Possession or Carrying of Dangerous Weapon while Intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor

(UPDATE- Thursday 2:00 p.m.) Ames Police Sergeant Amber Christian told StoryCounty.News on Thursday that both shooting victims are currently in stable condition. “One of the victims has been released from the hospital,” she noted. “The other victim is due to be released or has also been released.”

Per online records, Anthony Garner, the accused in the shooting, has a total bond set at $500,000. He remains at the Story County Jail.

Investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
