UPDATE: Ames man hit with additional charges of human trafficking, prostitution, pimping

An Ames man has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to Ames Police Sergeant Amber Christian, authorities were recently made aware of a possible child sex abuse situation in the area. The Ames Police Department executed search warrants at the residence and business of 44-year-old Carl D. Markley of Ames.

As a result of the investigation, Markley was arrested and charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor – Cause to Engage in Act, a class “C” felony.

Ames PD is still investigating the case.

(UPDATE- Monday 3:27 p.m.) In a press release Monday, Ames PD announced additional charges filed against Markley. They are as follows:

  • Human Trafficking, a class “D” felony
  • Pimping, a class “D” felony
  • Prostitution, an aggravated misdemeanor

According to the release, the added charges are a result of the “extensive investigation” that continues into Markley.
