UPDATE: 16-year-old arrested, charged with felony after Ames stabbing

A juvenile male has been charged as an adult following a stabbing that occurred in west Ames on Saturday.

According to a press release, a 16-year-old male was arrested just hours after the alleged incident, which took place on Delaware Avenue.

Just after 2:00 p.m., StoryCounty.News was alerted to the crime scene by a passerby who observed crime scene tape and multiple Ames Police Department units blocking the area.

According to Ames Police Sergeant Amber Christian, authorities responded to a crime scene in the 1100 block of Delaware Avenue at approximately 1:35 p.m. Saturday on a report of a stabbing. Officers then located an injured male victim.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.

The 16-year-old suspect, who is not currently being identified by Ames PD, has been charged as an adult, according to Christian. He faces one count of Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury, a class “C” felony. Christian told StoryCounty.News that authorities “will review whether or not we release [the suspect’s] name at a later date.”

According to Christian, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
