Woman shot in west Ames; Chicago man charged with attempted murder

Police in Ames have charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a woman Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release, 33-year-old Lyndon N. Dembry was apprehended in the 4500 block of Mortensen Road at 3:16 p.m. Wednesday.

Police were called to the 4700 block of Mortensen Road shortly before 3:00 p.m. on a report of a shooting in a parking lot. The victim, a female, had reportedly been shot in “the upper body.”

The female was transported to MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, where her condition remains unknown.

Dembry, who is reportedly a Chicago, Illinois resident, was charged with the following:

  • Attempted Murder, a class “B” felony
  • Dominion and Control of a Firearm by a Felon, a class “D” felony
  • Domestic Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon – First Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor

Dembry is being held at the Story County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond, per online records. He awaits a preliminary hearing on December 2 at 1:00 p.m.
