Firefighters in Ames were called to a reported structure fire Monday evening, one that ended up causing close to $25,000 in estimated damage.
According to a press release, the fire was first reported to authorities at around 6:30 p.m. Monday. Crews responded to 4210 Lincoln Swing, a 24-unit apartment building, to find heavy smoke bellowing from one of the residences. A neighbor reportedly called in the blaze.
Ames Fire responders located the fire and contained it to a singular room, per the release.
The building was evacuated during the incident, and crews were able to extinguish the fire. The occupant of the unit that caught fire was not home at the time, according to the release.
Officials are still investigating what caused the fire, but initial reports do not indicate any foul play. The release stated that estimated damage is thought to be “near $25,000.”
The property, known as Twin Oaks Apartments, is managed locally by Metro Property Management.
A spokesperson for the Ames Fire Department was not immediately available for comment.
Ames Fire officials are reminding everyone in the community to check their smoke detectors on a monthly basis in order to ensure adequate escape time in the event of a fire.
