Nevada resident, Marshalltown teacher charged after alleged inappropriate conduct

A Marshalltown school teacher, who happens to also be a resident of Nevada, has been arrested on allegations of inappropriate conduct toward a minor.

According to a Marshalltown Police Department press release, authorities received allegations regarding potential inappropriate conduct between an adult male and a 13-year-old juvenile. The allegations in the report included “contact and communication” between the suspect and victim, leading to possible exploitation.

An ensuing investigation by Marshalltown PD led to Wednesday’s arrest of 42-year-old Adam Eugene Edgington of Nevada. Per the release, Edgington has been a teacher in the Marshalltown Community School District. The school district’s website lists Edgington as a Language Arts teacher at Miller Middle School. In addition, the juvenile has been a student in the district.

The release states that Edgington is accused of engaging “in a specific pattern of conduct and behavior that progressed with a minor for the purpose of soliciting inappropriate physical contact with said minor.”

The arrest comes approximately one week after a different Marshalltown School District teacher was arrested on the same felony exploitation charge.

Edgington has been charged with Sexual Exploitation By a School Employee, a class “D” felony. He was released pending his initial court date. Documents indicate he is set for a court appearance on July 12 at 8:30 a.m. at the Marshall County Courthouse. An order was also submitted Wednesday prohibiting any contact between Edgington and the minor.

The investigation surrounding the case is ongoing. Marshalltown PD is asking that anyone with information regarding the alleged crime contact authorities at 641-754-5725. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling 641-753-1234.
