A house fire at an Ames residence Saturday has resulted in an estimated $70,000 in total damage.
According to a press release, the Ames Fire Department responded to the 1402 Meadowlane Avenue fire at around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday after a passerby called 911. When firefighters arrived on-scene, they reportedly observed “heavy smoke and flames from the back” of the structure.
The flames were quickly extinguished, and there was found to have been no one in the home at the time of the fire, per the release. However, it was reported that the home suffered from “heavy smoke and fire damage throughout the first floor and attic.”
The cause of the blaze is under further investigation.
Ames officials are asking that all residents check their smoke detectors each month. In addition, it is encouraged that cooking areas are kept free of combustible material.
